  • I have always been a yo-yo dieter. Raising three children and being an elementary teacher I felt that stress was my excuse for over eating and never exercising. I was so tired, both physically and mentally. I joined Curves in 2004 thinking at least it would allow me to eat a few more calories. It wasn't until I turned 55, the same age both my parents developed Type II diabetes, that I realized it was now or never. On April 18, 2008 I joined Weight Watchers, started walking and got serious about my workouts at Curves. It wasn't long before my heartburn vanished, my blood pressure began dropping and I was sleeping better. Seven months later, on November 13, 2008, I had gone from 214 to 158, a size 20 to a size 12. I feel amazing!! The Curves Smart program helped me lose weight at a consistent pace. Now I continue working towards improving my overall fitness level. For the first time, thanks to Curves, I no longer mind having my picture taken.

I joined Curves in 2004. I love the Bristol Curves because the friendliness of the members. I always felt comfortable because there were never any judgment or fashion requirements. What has amazed me is that I have become so committed. The work outs are only 30 minutes and I can fit it into my schedule.

  • What has Curves done for you? When I first joined Curves, I was an overweight, under active, middle aged woman who was afraid of being noticed. My self-esteem was very low. Just getting myself to stop in at Curves was a huge step for me. The Bristol Curves staff made me feel like I was an essential part of their day. When I opened the door to walk in, they were calling out greetings to me. They worked with me each 30 minutes that I spent exercising at Curves. I could feel and see changes occurring to not only my body but my mind as well. After loosing 36 overall inches from my body, I felt like a new person. I am no longer overweight or as inactive as I used to be. Although, I am still middle aged, I can keep up with most of the younger people that I hang out with and some times I can endure more than them. I look at myself and really like what I now see and know that the best is yet to come.

How long have you been a member? Since February 2007. What has amazed you? Becuase I attend Curves regularly and have started an exercise/eating program, it amazes me that so many of the members of my Curves facility noticed the difference week to week. The encouragement that they give and show is so inspiring. Also, that exercising just 3 times a week has made so many changes in my appearance. So when people say that we are in charge of our destiny, for our health's sake, at Curves the possibilites are endless. It's never too late for a fresh start.

February 11, 2003 is the day that Irene Wanner changed her life. She was overweight at 230 pounds, had bad knees and was using a cane for support. Her doctor told her that she would have to lose some weight and get her blood pressure down before she could perform knee surgery. Her doctor gave her the name of a local diet clinic, but the thought of getting on yet another diet did not appeal to Irene. Then she remembered a friend telling her about Curves. She joined immediately! After three months she was losing weight and her knees began to feel a lot better. She continued to lose weight after she joined the Six Week Solution Class. It has been four years since Irene never did have to have that knee surgery. In fact, she hung up her cane for good!
